Known as the "Portuguese French Riviera", Estoril is a cosy, peaceful village that was once a popular haunt for WWII spies and exiles, and later on for the rich and famous. In fact, Sir Ian Fleming got his idea for Casino Royale here! Nowadays it still features a glitzy casino, turreted villas, and many charming restaurants, but it's more peaceful and relaxing. Spend time strolling its beautiful beaches and gardens, or visit the unique palaces of nearby Sintra. You can also take a short drive to Lisbon to visit the medieval quarter and walk along the streets of Bairo and Madragoa. We suggest you have dinner at a Fado restaurant and listen to the local music. (B)
