Begin and end in Reykjavik to make a full circle around the country; along the way, you’ll encounter incredible landscapes, ancient Viking settlements, quaint villages, and untold adventure.

1

Reykjavik - Arrival

Upon arrival in Reykjavik, collect your luggage and rental car at the airport. Depending on your arrival time, you may want to take the opportunity for an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon. Drive to your hotel in Reykjavik, the colourful capital of Iceland. Overnight in Iceland.

Thingvellir - Gullfoss - Geysir - Vik

Quality Hotels & Guest Houses: Vik Icelandair Hotel or similar accommodations

Enjoy a day visiting the natural wonders of the Golden Circle region. First you will visit Gullfoss, considered to be Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall, followed by the Geysir geothermal field and the famous Strokkur geyser. Next, visit Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic Viking parliament and a jewel of nature. Drive along the south shore, viewing Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, two amazing waterfalls. Continue with a visit to the black sand beaches around Vik to see the Myrdalsjokull glacier. If you have time, consider an optional snowmobiling adventure. Check-in to your hotel in Vik and enjoy the remainder of the evening at your leisure. (B)

Kirkjubaejarklaustur - Skaftafell - Hofn

Head through Eldraun, the strange-looking lava field created by one of Iceland’s most devastating volcanic eruptions. Drive through the village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, site of a medieval convent. Explore Skaftafell, a green oasis nestled below the great Vatnajokull glacier. Continue across the black sand plains, stopping at the incredible Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. Later, head onwards to the charming harbor town of Hofn for check-in at your hotel. (B)

Hofn - Djupivogur - Reydarfjordur - Egilsstadir

Drive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords where you have the option of visiting Djupivogur village and its unique egg sculptures. From here, you may either drive straight through Fagridalur to Egilsstadir or head along the East Fjords, one of the oldest regions in Iceland. Depending on your schedule, you might enjoy the opportunity to swim in a genuine hot spring lake at the new Vok geothermal area near Egilsstadir, where you will check-in to your hotel for the evening at your leisure. Egilsstadir - Dettifoss - Husavik

Travel across the Modrudalsoraefi highlands, renowned for its stark, untouched beauty, until you reach Dettifoss, Europe’s mightiest waterfall. Next, travel through the otherworldly canyon landscapes of Vatnajokull National Park before driving onwards to Tjornes peninsula and the Husavik fishing port for check-in at your hotel. Tonight, you might enjoy the opportunity to relax in the soothing warm ocean waters of the GeoSea Geothermal Spa as you look out onto the Arctic Circle. Overnight in  Myvatn area (B)

Husavik - Myvatn - Akureyri

Explore the highlights of the Lake Myvatn area, including the mystical volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, the colourful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and the Krafla volcanic area. You might decide to relax with a visit to the azure blue Myvatn Nature Baths where you can enjoy the soothing waters and the natural steam baths and sauna. Continue your drive to visit the Godafoss waterfall en route to Akureyri for check-in at your hotel in Akureyri or the Northwest area (B)

Akureyri - Skagafjordur - Hunafloi - Reykjavik

Drive through the historical region of Skagafjordur, renowned for horses breeding. You have the option of visiting the old farmstead at Glaumbaer, a great example of traditional Icelandic architecture. Continue to the bay of Hunafloi where you might visit the Seal Center or take a seal watching tour. Later, head across the Holtavorduheidi plateau entering the Borgarfjordur area. Here you can visit the beautiful Hraunfossar lava falls and Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Continue your drive to Reykjavik for check-in at your hotel. (B)

Reykjavik - Return

Enjoy a final Icelandic breakfast before returning to the airport to return your rental car and board your return flight home. (B)
